Video Picks of the Week
January 25, 2008
We have two new acts joining the 365 fold next week.
Will Franken is a Missouri-born stand up comedian, currently based in New York, which is where Sowerby and Luff were blown away by his most recent one-man show during their November trip to the city.
Naturally, when we heard that Will’s own podcast, Things We Did Before Reality, had been wowing the web for the last couple of years, we just had to see what it was all about. We truly think it’s one of the best comedy podcasts you’ll ever hear.
There are ten episodes for your amusement and amazement, with hopefully more one-offs to follow later in the year once Will’s hectic touring schedule calms down a bit.
As a taster, enjoy this clip from Will’s DVD Turn on the Window. Unless you’re a woman in her 40s from Marin, that is…
Pegabovine is a British comedy-theatre group comprising of core members Luke Kennard, Jenny Sutton, Matthew Henry Johnson, and Davis Wateracre.
They are regular performers at sketch nights on the London fringe, where their material has been described as “inventive”, “witty”, and “clever”.
The first edition of their House of Mirth podcast (or, if you will, podabovine) was recorded just before Christmas and has already become a word-of-mouth hit in the UK. Further editions are due roughly every couple of months and we also hope to bring you some material from their archives later in the year.
By way of introduction, here’s a clip of them being interviewed by the BBC behind the scenes of their Edinburgh 2007 fringe show Coat of Arms. There’s even a guest appearance by Mr. & Mrs. Wateracre, who must be very proud, even though their son has quite clearly made off with half of their belongings to use as props for the show.
Will Franken: Things We Did Before Reality can be heard every Thursday from January 31st; Pegabovine’s House of Mirth – episode 1 can be heard from February 1st.
